Eventually, Paul Nogier came to realize that any stimulation of the skin would bring about a vascular reaction. At Pierre Magnin's suggestion, the term ACR was replaced by vascular autonomic signal (VAS).

This arterial phenomenon has also subsequently been called “Nogier's arterial reflex.”

Indeed, ACR, VAS, and Nogier's arterial reflex refer to the same phenomenon.

The ACR is a sign of the organism's adaptation to pain, cutaneous stimulation, emotion, or any abnormal situation.

If the technique of taking the pulse is mastered, the ACR enables one to evaluate the organism's adaptive capacity.

The ACR has been the subject of much research. However, so far no procedure enables completely reliable recording of this phenomenon.
